Cindy has a “honeydo” list for me and I have to admit that usually I recoil from it, since it means not doing what I want to do. I usually end up doing them reluctantly and without enthusiasm, seeing them as a bother.
We’re getting ready for a family reunion in Florida, so I know there are a lot of things that are on her list for which she’d like closure before we leave. So yesterday I felt convicted that I need to give my full attention and devotion to the things on her list. So when I came home I said, “I’m yours for the next 2-3 hours.
It ended up being 5 hours! From 9 pm until 2 am. And when we finished one thing I always asked, “What can i do next?” which is so unlike me! And you know what? It was kind of fun, knowing that I was being a blessing to her and lightening her load. I was serving her enthusiastically.
I think today’s verse tells us to do exactly that in our spiritual life. We are to approach God not as the great joy-sucker, but as one Whom we love so much and Whom it’s a delight to serve!
